Tom Hanus - Bio -
Tom is an award winning Engraver and Artisan who has spent more than forty years perfecting his craft. A lifelong native of Omaha Nebraska he began his engraving apprenticeship in 1973 under the watchful eyes of master engravers at nationally recognized Tourek Engraving. Learning and working under second generation masters Tom learned to incorporate art and science into his craft to create numerous award winning pieces. His artistry and skill have been recognized nationally and internationally.
Beyond engraving he continues to grow as an artisan working in many mediums. He first achieved commercial success with his limited edition piece titled “Illusion of Dawn” a piece sought after and selected for presentation to noted wildlife enthusiast such as singer/song writer John Denver and host of PBS “Wild America” Marty Stouffer. His pieces include embossing, scrimshaw, charcoal drawings and most recently handmade clocks. However, it was a class in hand produced books he attended at the University of Nebraska at Omaha that inspired the creation of his book “The Raven”. A entirely hand crafted book marrying the beauty of artistry in multiple mediums to create a highly sought after and collectible piece selected for inclusion in Joslyn Art Museum’s 2005 “The Beauty of The Book” exhibit.
